Clinton is a working town, not a weekend one.
Van Buren County’s seat sits in the Little Red River valley on Highway 65, and unlike the lake communities east of it, most of the housing here is lived in all year. That changes what exterior work looks like: less second-home catch-up, more ordinary maintenance on properties people see every day.

Lower, more open ground
The valley behaves differently from the ridges.
Clinton sits lower and more open than the country north and west of it, down around the river corridor rather than up on the wooded uplands. The immediate Highway 65 and river stretch has been cleared and built along, so there is more sun on more walls here than in the lake towns twelve to eighteen miles east.
That is genuinely good news for exterior surfaces. Sun dries a wall, and a dry wall grows very little. The properties in Clinton that give trouble are the ones on the wooded edges of town, and the north elevations of houses sitting close to tree lines where the morning sun never lands.
What does come up consistently here is flatwork. A river-valley town on a truck route collects grit, and driveways and walks carry a film that reads as general dinginess rather than obvious green. Concrete takes real pressure — 3,000 to 4,000 PSI on a surface cleaner — and it is usually the change people notice most.
