The last ordinary town before the lake country.
Quitman sits on Highway 25 about thirty miles northeast of Conway, straddling the Cleburne and Faulkner county line. It is the practical southern gateway to Greers Ferry Lake, and the landscape starts changing here — country roads, wooded ridges and houses tucked into clearings rather than laid out in blocks.

Acreage changes the job
More outbuildings than most towns have houses.
Property here runs to larger lots, and larger lots come with more to clean than the house. Detached shops, pole barns, equipment sheds and long stretches of pasture fencing are normal rather than unusual, and most of them have never been washed because nobody thinks of an outbuilding as something you clean.
Metal-sided shops and barns are worth mentioning specifically. They hold a chalky film and streaking that looks permanent from a distance and generally is not, and they are a low-pressure job rather than a high-pressure one.
The terrain rolls harder than it does around Greenbrier, with hardwood woods broken by open pasture, and homes set back down long drives. That drive is often the largest concrete or the most visible approach on the property, and on a rural lot it is doing more work for first impressions than the front door is.
